Editorial Policy and How We Evaluate VPNs

Last updated: 11 September 2026.

VPN Comparison Hub aims to publish useful, transparent purchasing guidance. This page explains how evidence is handled, how affiliate relationships are separated from conclusions, and what readers should expect from a review.

Evidence hierarchy

We prefer primary sources: provider terms, privacy policies, support documentation, security advisories and published audit information. Independent technical reports are used when their scope and date are identifiable. Marketing claims are attributed rather than repeated as established fact.

Evaluation criteria

  • Privacy and data-handling policies.
  • Independent assessments and their scope.
  • Protocols, kill switch and leak-protection features.
  • Platform support and simultaneous device limits.
  • Full upfront cost, plan duration, refund eligibility and renewal terms.
  • Cancellation and support documentation.
  • Hands-on performance checks when a repeatable method has been completed.

Testing limitations

Speed, streaming access and reliability depend on location, server load, protocol, device and time. We do not present provider claims as our own measurements. When the site has not completed a controlled test, the review says so. Future original tests will disclose devices, connection, locations, dates and limitations.

Affiliate independence

The site may earn commissions from some links. Commission rates do not determine rankings or erase drawbacks. A provider without an active commercial relationship will not be given a fabricated review merely to make a list look comprehensive.

Updates

Volatile facts such as device limits, features, refund rules and plan terms are checked against current sources. A “last fact check” date means those facts were reviewed; it is not changed merely to make an old page look fresh.

Corrections

Material errors are corrected as soon as reasonably possible. See the corrections policy or contact us with supporting evidence.
